Financial Aid - The Application Process

MORE INFORMATION
All Students

To apply for federal, state, and institutional financial assistance a student and their family must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Our federal school code is #002901. You can accomplish this in two ways:

  1. Complete the FAFSA electronically. Filing electronically shortens the time it takes schools to receive your information and lessens the chances for errors. The federal application web site is www.fafsa.ed.gov. You and one parent must each have a PIN number that will serve as your signature. The PIN is your identifier to let you access personal information in various U.S. Department of Education systems. Your PIN serves as your electronic signature and should not be given to anyone. Students and parents cannot share the same PIN number. If you do not have a PIN number, you can print out the signature page of the FAFSA and mail it to the federal processor. Anyone can obtain a PIN at any time at www.pin.ed.gov. Your PIN will be mailed to you within 7-10 days.
  2. Complete the paper FAFSA. Forms are available by contacting the Central Processing Center at 1-800-433-3243.
Recommended Deadlines:

First Year Students: February 15th
Returning Students: April 1st

Early Decision Applicants
To receive notification of your financial aid eligibility before December 15th, early decision applicants are required to complete the College Scholarship Service Profile Application. Completion of this form is a two-step process involving registration and application. There are two ways to register: 1) Call 1-800-778-6888 seven days a week or 2) connect to College Board Online (http://www.collegeboard.com/profile.html). Our CSS code is #2971. Complete the application using estimated income and tax information by December 15th. Remember that the Profile application does not take the place of the FAFSA. All students who are eligible to receive federal, state, and institutional financial aid funds must complete the FAFSA.

Transfer Students
Transfer students are considered a special asset to the Wells College community. They enroll after completing at least one semester’s work at another institution, joining the Wells’s community either in the fall or spring. Transfer students bring breadth and depth of experience that enriches and add value to the Wells experience. As with all students, transfers apply for federal, state, and institutional financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The federal school code for Wells is #002901. You and your parent, if appropriate, will need to obtain a PIN number to serve as your electronic signature. You can apply for your PIN number at www.pin.ed.gov. If you wish to apply for fall semester admissions, we recommend completing the FAFSA by June 1st. If you will be applying for spring semester, we recommend filing by December 1st.

Foreign Students
Wells College recognizes the special financial needs of many foreign students; however, we are unable to help all foreign students who enter the country on a student visa. The College does not offer any scholarships, grants, or loans that cover the full cost of attending. Foreign students are not eligible for any need-based financial aid funds. The College does not have institutional grant or loan funds to award international students. The Admissions Office at Wells College will determine if an international student is eligible for our Foreign Student Scholarship upon acceptance to the institution. Realizing that foreign students are only eligible to work on campus, all foreign students are will receive the standard job award as determined by the College.
