More than thirty years ago Wells College
recognized the need to link a liberal arts education to the real world.
Today the innovative Internship Program is widely known for the variety
of its sites as well as the quality of work its students produce. Students
of all class years may participate in the Internship Program.
The Internship Program involves placing
students with individuals, organizations, and businesses for a specific
period of time. During January Intersession, the semester, or summer, students
may complete an internship and receive academic credit. Students work with
staff and faculty to develop internship possibilities or they may search
a database of more than 1000 internships on file.
During the 2005 - 2006 academic year,
Wells students completed nearly 200 internships in 25 states, the District
of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Bangladesh, England, Ethiopia, Hong Kong, Japan,
Mexico, Peru and Portugal. Of the candidates for graduation in May
2006, 94% have completed at least one internship during their college careers.
Corporate
Affiliate Internships
The Wells College Corporate Affiliates Program is a partnership of leading
corporations, foundations, individuals, and Wells College. The Corporate
Affiliates Internship Program, which offers paid competitive internships
for juniors and seniors, is in its thirteenth year and continues to be
the capstone of the internship program.
Since 1987, more than 100 students
have benefited from the program for which there is a selection process
requiring the submission of a resume and cover letter and participation
in an on-campus interview. Currently The Bank of New York and Wells Fargo
Bank-Historical Services sponsor Corporate Affiliates Internships.
Internships
for First Year Students
From the moment they arrive
on campus, Wells students are encouraged to explore career options. First-year
students who choose to complete internships during January intersession
do so through a course, WLLS 190, that focuses on the connection between
liberal arts and the world of work. During January 2006, nearly half of
first-year students enrolled in WLLS 190.
