Mission Statement

The Department of Campus Safety consists of a team of professionals working with the campus community. Campus Safety officers conduct foot and vehicular patrols of campus properties and residence halls 24 hours a day. Officers have been trained in emergency procedures, First Aid, CPR, AED, and a wide variety of law enforcement and crisis intervention skills. The Campus Safety Department develops rapport with the community by achieving a partnership with its members and balancing enforcement and community services. They also provide community-oriented policing initiatives which provides service to the community which helps increase communication and interaction with the public.  Contact Campus Safety at 315-364-3229.

Campus Safety and Security Officers

Full and part-time security officers monitor campus properties and college owned off campus locations. Officers are trained to respond to safety and security concerns and provide support and appropriate referrals to visits of crime.  The security officers maintain a close working relationship with the Office of Residence Life and with all other campus departments.

Wells College Critical Incident Response Plan

If a member of the Wells community becomes directly involved in or is aware of a crisis situation or critical incident, they should do the following:

Serious accidents, medical emergencies, fire or imminent threat: Call 911 immediately and specify that you are calling from Wells College. Then, notify Security at x3229. An officer will respond to the scene.

Non-emergency situation: Contact the Security Department at x3229 and report the incident.

Every critical incident or emergency scenario cannot be predicted. However, many critical incidents require similar responses from the College. The primary objectives of the Critical Incident Response Plan are to protect life, preserve property, and restore normal campus operations as soon as possible.

On the handouts section of this page, you will find the College's Critical Incident Response Plan. Please review it and contact the Dean of Students or the Director of Security if you have questions or suggestions.
