Why Give
Featured Link:  • Giving Online •

Since her founding in 1868, Wells has benefited from the philanthropy of devoted alumnae, parents and friends of the college. Among the many traditions at Wells, the tradition of giving is perhaps the strongest. In 1898 alumnae joined together to endow the Wells College Scholarship Fund and to provide the college’s first form of financial aid.

Today, the support of alumnae, parents and friends is critical to the operations of the college.  From funding classroom technology and laboratory renovations to supporting faculty salaries and student aid, the college depends on the annual support of its donors.

Programs that make Wells unique among peer institutions, such as the Henry Wells Scholars Program and the Wells Book Arts Center, are strong in large part because of the generous support they receive from alumnae, parents and friends.

The reasons for giving to Wells are different for each donor.

Some give to strengthen the college’s academic and physical resources. Others give to enhance Wells’ reputation as a leader in private, liberal arts education and to ensure the option of women’s education is preserved.

Alumnae often give in appreciation for all that Wells contributed to their lives or out of a desire to “give back” so future generations of students benefit from support similar to that which they received. Many parents choose to honor their daughter with a gift made in her name.

When employers will match gifts to higher education institutions, Wells donors enjoy having that extra impact on the college. Through giving, most donors can take advantage of tax savings and estate planning opportunities.

Giving rates are factored into college rankings such as U.S. News and World Report’s guide to America’s Best Colleges. By making a habit of supporting the Wells Annual Fund, alumnae, parents and friends help to ensure the recognized value of a diploma from Wells and contribute to the continued financial health of the college.

Whatever your reason, we hope you will join us today by making a gift in support of Wells

Your gift makes a difference.  Thank you for your support of Wells!
